Our Story

The Electrical Inspector's Association of Alberta (EIAA) was founded on December 4, 1974 by a dedicated group of inspectors looking for a way to join with other inspectors outside of their daily work force. Many belonged to the Provincial, City of Calgary, and City of Edmonton Inspection organization. The first Executive consisted of:

Bill Hobson (President)

Jack Pollock (Vice-President)

Darrell Peterson (Sec-Treasurer)

Ted Kemshead (program Director)

Vern Ludwig (Publicity Director)

Bill Gnam (Aims & Objective director)

Gill Parent (By-Laws Director)

Roger Ethler (Membership director)

When the Alberta Government privatized the inspection work, the Provincial group was dismantled down to just a few personnel. The municipal inspectors became part of the Accredited Municipalities. The balance of the inspectors became independents or joined the Accredited Agencies.

Currently there are about 160 personnel that are directly involved in the electrical inspection Industry. The majority of these belong to the EIAA, to share a common interest or concern within the Electrical Industry, as it applies to the Code and its application.

The Provincial Executive meets twice a year to handle the EIAA business within the province. Peace River, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and Red Deer make up the local Chapters, and conduct their own meetings on a bi-monthly basis. The EIAA has an Education committee, which promotes and chairs the Annual Technical Code Conference, in which all members may obtain clarification on Code rulings and other issues affecting their daily work. Some of the Chapters have also organized Code Upgrading Seminars as a training tool for contractors and the general public. The EIAA promotes the uniform understanding and application of the Rules and Regulations adopted under the Alberta Safety Codes Act. Numerous members also sit on various committees, to assist the government and private industry in understanding the Code and its application.

Any person may apply for membership by written application to the Secretary of the Association. Such application shall be presented to and considered by the Executive Committee at the first regular meeting following the application. Please contact us if you have any other questions.
